HiM - New Features - CD/2xLP [BC-034]
Forget what you know. Forget the stream of incredible albums that have come out over the last 5 years bearing the HiM name, think not about Doug Scharin's early dub days of deep home recordings from Brooklyn, and even toss aside the faster-than-Fela afrofunk found on last year's live-band debut, which couldn't come close to conveying the intense energy of a HiM performance. "New Features" is burning. Right from the record's starting point the band takes you into a unique kind of groove, through crazy afrojazz and thick dub fusion, led by adventurous melody lines with eastern themes and pushed by a tribal, two-kit rhythm section.
